SUNY Cobleskill Biotechnology Degree Ranked #2 Nationwide

Cobleskill, NY – Schools.com has ranked SUNY Cobleskill’s Biotechnology program as #2 nationwide in a field of ten top schools, selected from dozens of candidates, the organization announced today.

The College’s Biotechnology program has received significant national attention recently. Research being conducted by biotechnology students at SUNY Cobleskill was featured in an article appearing on NPR and its affiliate stations around the country. The students are working to engineer fungus-resistant hop varietals native to New York. Their hope is to contribute to the revival of craft brewing in the state by helping to prevent another disease-borne disaster like the one that destroyed the state’s hops agriculture in the early twentieth century.

“The Biotechnology program at SUNY Cobleskill is built on a century of successful agriculture and technology education. Farmers were amongst the first biotechnologists, working to improve the quality of the food system,” said Dr. Marion A. Terenzio, President of SUNY Cobleskill. “Today, through the management of biological processes, our biotechnology students and faculty continue this important work together finding useful solutions which will improve quality of life.”

Schools.com ranking criteria included degree offerings in biotechnology, tuition, fees, student success, accessibility, institutional spending on instructional and academic support, student-to-faculty ratio, size of program and flexibility.
