Pizza Hut Partnership Leads to 25% More Cheese on Pan Pizzas
Pizza Hut has increased the amount of cheese on its pan pizzas by 25%. This change is a big deal for dairy - it impacts nearly 1/3 of the pizzas that Pizza Hut sells and will require an additional 150 million pounds of milk annually to meet the change. The project was made possible thanks to your dairy checkoff scientist, Nitin Joshi, who works at Pizza Hut's headquarters.
Checkoff Research Helped Bring Halo Top to Life
In August of 2017, the high-protein, lowfat, low-sugar brand Halo Top was leading all other ice creams in grocery store pint sales. And your dairy checkoff program helped make it happen.
Not long after Halo Top became a success, Unilever launched a similar dairy-based product called "Breyers delights," which is the kind of catalytic effect the checkoff aims for.
U.S. Dairy Exports Up 14% in 2017
In 2017, the checkoff-led U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) helped push dairy export to near record levels of ~15% of production, versus just 4% in 1995 when USDEC was created - and the potential is there to hit 20%!
To help grow global dairy consumption, your checkoff is working with Yum! Brands, and through August 207, U.S. cheese use at Pizza Hut Asia-Pacific was up 35%.
