Iowa Hosts National Guernsey Convention
Columbus, OH - The National Guernsey Convention is right around the corner. This year’s convention will be in Dubuque, Iowa, hosted by the Iowa Guernsey Breeders Association June 26-30. A great five days is in store for convention goers as the American Guernsey Association members gather to celebrate the accomplishments of the breeders, youth and conduct association business, along with some good opportunities to fellowship!
Along with the traditional youth competitions of quiz bowl, dairy jeopardy, speeches and more, awards will be presented for high production, outstanding service and honoring various members. Farm tours to K-Valley Farm, Oak Knob Guernseys and AFH Holsteins and K Hageman Guernseys are on tap for Thursday, June 27.
Several seminars and open forums will take place including a genomics seminar by Zoetis, open forums for discussion on young sires, shows, Purebred Publishing, and an appraisal seminar and forum with the Holstein Association USA Classification management at Knapp Guernseys in Epworth, Iowa, on Wednesday afternoon.
World renown artist, Bonnie Mohr, will be present at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, to sign prints of her newest piece, painted just for the AGA as a fund raiser for the upcoming 2019 World Guernsey Conference that will be hosted here in the U.S. The evening will end with the Youth banquet and Youth Auction where Bonnie’s original piece will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The convention will end on Saturday with the convening of membership for the annual meeting followed by the National Guernsey Sale. Over 60 animals, embryos and semen are being cataloged and presented for sale for buyers looking to add quality, high-component, deep-pedigreed Guernseys to their dairies. From A2 to showring to genomics – there will be something for everyone selling at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 30 in Dubuque.
