Iowa BSA hosts National Brown Swiss Convention


Iowa is the state to be this year for conventions! The Iowa Brown Swiss Breeders hosted the National Convention in Coralville, Iowa this week. #NationalBrownSwissConvention

Today awards were presented for production and service as well as the Annual Meeting and Sale.


The Freemans of Breman, Indiana, took home a slew of National Production Awards with Jonlee Secret Langwathby - the J.P. Eves Trophy, Vernon C. Hull Total Performance and Cow For All Seasons Awards. She made 6-0 305D 41,840M 5.5% 2,292F 3.8% 1,569P. The Freemans also own Siegerts Wapsi-Ana Style-ET the H.R. Searles Trophy Protein Award.

Cozy Nook Pronto Twylight was awarded the 2017 Living LIfetime Cow Award. She is owned by Cozy Nook Farm, Wisconsin.


The Active Master Breeder Award was presented to the Daubert Family of Pennylsvania, owners of WindMill Farms. The Brown Swiss Historical Society Historical Master Breeder this year was Roy Arnold of Arnola Farms, North Carolina.

The Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting was all about the 2017 Change and Transition according to President Richard Sparrow in his address. Several changes, including a By-Law change has been passed and elected to the board were Brian Lammers, District III; Phillip Heck, District IV; Dennis Worden, District VI and President, Richard Sparrow.

The National Sale


The National Sale, managed by Courtney Sales LLC and Iowa BSA took place during the evening. Topping the sale at $10,100 was Blessing Garbro F Pausha, consigned by Blessing Farms and Garrison Brothers, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The December 2017 WinningFormula daughter is out of the 3E-93 Sun-Made GB Plt Pretzel ET with multiple records over 31,000M 1,400F and 1,080P. She is backed by multiple Excellent cows and Superior Brood Cows including Arnola Pauline Peggy 4E, bred by the Historical Master Breeder Roy Arnold.

Second high seller at $9,800 was Top Acres Durham Wintu ET from the World of Whizzbang family. A September 2017 Durham daughter of the World Dairy Expo Grand Champion she was consigned by Wayne Sliker.

Also selling for over $9,000 was Lee-Anns Durham Finley a fresh young cow consigned by Lee-Anns Swiss LLC at $91,00 and Blessing Tanbark Marcel a Very Good Four-Year-Old with over 25,000 bred to Fast & Furious who sold for $9,250 and consigned by Blessing Farms.
